Returning to action after a weekend off for prom, the Patriots traveled down 270 to face a very talented Lindbergh Flyers team on Monday afternoon looking to kick off a busy week of baseball with a big win.

The Patriot bats came out swinging with back-to-back singles in the top of the first, but failed to capitalize on the scoring opportunity bringing Jordan Schneider (Jr) to the mound to keep the score at 0.

Schneider returned the favor retiring the first six hitters of the game keeping the score tied 0-0 heading into the third. Once again the Patriot bats came out swinging as they loaded the bases with no one out before being stymied by the Flyers pitcher was able to work out of the jam to keep the score tied at 0.

After getting out of the bases loaded, no out jam, the Flyers bats came out hot scoring two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to jump out to a 2-0 lead meaning it was time for the Patriot bats to get going with runners in scoring position, and they did just that.

Andy Hertlein (Sr) led off the  top of the fourth with a first pitch double to left centerfield followed up by a 2-strike single by Jamison Lombardo (Sr) and a bunt single by Tommy Horejes (Fr) to get on the board. After loading the bases, Schneider stepped to the plate and on a 1-2 count, hit a line drive tripe to right field to clear the bases and jump on top 4-2.

That was all Schneider needed to bring home the Patriots 16th victory of the season as he threw a complete game on just 74 pitches, his second complete game of the season.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Patriots responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning capitalizing off of two walks and two errors by the Longhorns. The Patriots didn't let their foot off the gas as they scored in the first five innings to put up double digit runs for the sixth time this season en route to their 10-3 victory.

Jacob Hurst (Jr), Jordan Schneider (Jr) and August Johansen (Sr) each had two hits, and Corwin Plank (Jr) and Andy Hertlein (Sr) reached base three times to propel the offense to a 1.014 OPS on the day. Hayden Kraft (So) also picked up his first stat in the box score picking up his first stolen base of the year.

Wyatt Simmons (Jr) got the starting nod for the Patriots. Although he did not have his best stuff, he minimized damage early before Andrew Heskett (So) was able to come in and shut the Longhorns down, throwing 4.2 innings allowing just 1 run (unearned). 4/15: PS vs. Oakville

Following Monday afternoon's tough loss, the Patriots returned home to the friendly confines of the Parkway South baseball field for their first Suburban-Red conference matchup of the season against the Oakville Tigers. In a thrilling back and forth battle, the Patriots came out on top with their second walk-off winner of the year, edging the Tigers 6-5.

Jordan Schneider (Jr) got the start and delivered a quick 1-2-3 top of the first, then helped himself at the plate in the bottom half with a double following a hit-by-pitch to Jacob Hurst (Jr). After a strikeout, Corwin Plank (Jr) jumped on the first pitch and ripped a single to left, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Schneider cruised through the second with a 1-2-3 inning, and the Patriots’ bats stayed hot. Jamison Lombardo (Sr) singled, followed by an RBI double from Tyler Shanfeld (Jr). Schneider then delivered a clutch two-out RBI single, extending the lead to 3-0.

After a scoreless 3rd, Oakville responded with a rally, scoring five runs between the 4th and 5th innings to take a 5-3 lead. But, the Patriots answered back With two outs in the bottom of the 5th, Plank and Wyatt Simmons (Jr) each came through with RBI singles to tie the game at 5.

The Tigers threatened in the top of the 7th, loading the bases with two outs. On a 1-1 pitch, Jacob Hurst induced a fly ball to right field, where Simmons, playing outfield for the first time this season, made a falling catch to end the threat and keep the score tied.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. With two outs and Lombardo at the plate, the first pitch skipped past the catcher, and August Johansen raced home for the walk-off run to seal the win.

The Patriots are back in action Thursday afternoon as they travel to face the Kirkwood Pioneers in another Suburban-Red conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Kirkwood High School.

Players of the Game:

Corwin Plank (1B): 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 SO

4/14: PS @ Ladue

The Patriots were back in action on Monday afternoon at Ladue to kick off the week. Unfortunately, the boys were unable to pull of a monstrous comeback and fell to the Rams 9-8.

Jacob Hurst (Jr) got the Pats going in the top of the 1st with a first pitch leadoff double to left field on the first pitch of the game. After advancing to third on a fly ball to right field by Jordan Schneider (Jr), August Johansen was able to drive hurst in on a sacrifice fly to center to jump ahead in the first.

Ladue responded with a run (unearned) of their own off of starter Jake Frenz (Sr) in the bottom half of the first and added two more in the second to jump out to a 3-1 lead. In the top of the third Hurst took it upon himself to bring the Patriots one run closer. After hitting a one out double, he stole third and the Ladue catcher threw the ball into left field allowing him to score.

After some uncharacteristic defensive miscues in the middle innings, the Patriots found themselves down 9-3 heading to the top of the 7th when the bats awoke. Five consecutive hits, including a two-run home run by August Johansen brought the Patriots within one, but that was where their strong 7th ended as the Rams were able to induce Jamison Lombardo (Sr) to hit into a game ending double play to win by one.

Jake Frenz (Sr) and Andrew Heskett (So) both pitched much better than the score would indicate and gave the Patriots a chance the entire game.

The Patriots return to action on Tuesday back at home when they take on the Oakville Tigers at 4:15pm.

Players of the Game:

Jacob Hurst (RF): 4-4, 4 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 SB, 1 E

4/11: PS vs. CBC

After a hard fought loss the night before, the Patriots returned to action against the CBC Cadets on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for baseball. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the result did not match the weather as the Patriots fell to the Cadets by a score of 18-5.

The Cadets jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first putting the pressure on and never taking their foot off the gas en route to their 5-inning victory.

The Patriots were highlighted at the plate by August Johansen (Sr) and Corwin Plank (Jr) each hitting their first home runs of the season, both of which were no doubters. On the mound, Wyatt Simmons shined throwing two scoreless innings while striking out three.

The Patriots return to action Monday afternoon to face the Ladue Rams at 4:30pm as they look to get back to their winning ways.

Players of the Game:

Wyatt Simmons (P): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 SO

August Johansen (2B): 1-1, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR, 1 BB

4/11: PS vs. CBHS (Memphis)

The Patriots returned home on Friday to face a talented Christian Brothers High School, from Memphis, Tennessee. The Patriots and Purple Wave played a tightly contested game with the visitors ultimately coming out on top 5-3.

After no score through the first two plus innings, the Patriots jumped out on top in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a line drive single to right field off the bat of Jacob Hurst (Jr) bringing home Wyatt Simmons (Jr) who had reached on an error. The lead was short lived as the Purple Wave resonded with two runs of their own in the top of the 4th off Schneider (Jr) who pitched very well in his four innings of work.

The Purple Wave added three more runs over the 6th and 7th innings before the Patriots fought their way back getting two in the bottom half and bringing the winning run to the plate before falling 5-3 on a beautiful day at Parkway South High School.

Jordan Schneider (Jr) got the start for the Patriots throwing 4 innings allowing just 2 runs. Jacob Frenz (Sr) kept the Patriots close pitching 2 innings and allowing just one run against a potent Purple Wave offense.

The Patriots return to action tomorrow against the CBC Cadets at noon.

Players of the Game:

Ethan Washburn (RF - Sr): 1-2, 1 HBP, 1 SB, 1 SO

Jacob Hurst (CF): 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO

4/7: PS @ De Smet

After a week off from games due to the rain, the Patriots were back in action against the De Smet Spartans on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, the return to game action did not go as planned as the Patriots fell 9-1.

De Smet jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Spartans lead could've been much greater if not for a great play by  starting pitcher Jacob Hurst (Jr) and catcher Eli Andert (Sr) combining to shut down a suicide squeeze attempt to keep the score 3-0 after one inning of play.

After not being able to respond in the top of the second, another great defensive play, this time on a 9-2 double play by Jordan Schneider (Jr) and Andert kept the Patriots in striking distance.

The Patriots offense was held off balance all afternoon long until the 5th when they were able to scratch one run across on singles by Hurst, Schneider, and Andert.  That was all the Patriots were able to muster up offensively as they struggled with runners in scoring position, stranding 10 base runners throughout the game.

Andrew Zimmerman (Fr) was a bright spot on the mound, providing 2.1 innings in relief, filling up the zone to keep the game within reach.

The Patriots return to action on Thursday night with their first of two Ballwin games when they take on the Northwest Lions. First pitch is scheudled for 6:30pm.

Players of the Game:

Andrew Zimmerman (P): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO

Jacob Hurst (P/OF): 3-4, 1 R

3/31: PS @ Wentzville Liberty

The Patriots saw their winning streak end at 5 with a walk-off loss at Wentzville Liberty to kick off the week.

The boys jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd fueled by 6 consecutive Patriots hitters reaching base, including RBI singles by Jacob Hurst (Jr) and Jordan Schneider (Jr). Liberty responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning before the Patriots answered with two more runs in the third (Liberty one in the bottom half) and fourth innings to jump out o a 7-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Coupled by some uncharacteristic defensive mishaps and pitching miscues, the Eagles were able to tie the game at 7 in the bottom of the 4th and take the lead in the bottom of the 5th, 8-7, meaning the Patriots needed some of the late inning magic they had shown the last two games to pull this one out.

In the top of the 7th, August Johansen (Sr) delivered a pinch hit single to set the stage for some late inning heroics. Tyler Shanfeld (Jr) followed up with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move Johansen into scoring position and giving the top of the order a chance to tie or take the lead. Hurst hit a scorching line drive to left field on the first pitch to give the Patriots two on, with just one out. After Schneider grounded out of on a fielders choice, Luke Sullivan (Sr) delivered on a 2 RBI double to right center field to give the Patriots the lead heading to the bottom of the 7th.

Unfortunately the Patriots were unable to hold on in the bottom half of the inning and Liberty scored two runs to win in walk-off fashion, 10-9.

The Patriots return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they square off against district rival Eureka at 4:15.

Players of the Game:

Luke Sullivan (DH): 3-4, 1 R,  2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 2B

3/27: PS vs. Marquette

The Patriots saw their winning ways continue pulling out a 5-3 victory over district foe the Marquette Mustangs on a Thursday afternoon at Parkway South.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 2nd, the Patriots tied the ballgame up in the 3rd. Jacob Hurst (Jr) reached safely on a one out bunt for a hit and Jordan Schneider (Jr) followed with a single of his own to get the Patriot offense going. With two outs and runners on the corner, Wyatt Simmons hit a hot shot ground ball that the Mustang second baseman was unable to handle to tie the game at one.

After some back and forth scoring, the Patriots found themselves down 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth. Eli Andert (Jr) led off with a hard earned walk followed up by a well executed Jamison Lombardo (Sr) sac bunt putting the tying runner in scoring position with one out. With two outs and an 0-2 count, Tommy Horejes (Fr) hit a ground ball to the third baseman who threw just off target to the first baseman pulling his foot off the bag and causing him to drop the ball and allowing the Patriots to tie the game up at 3. Following another Mustang error and a hit by pitch, Schneider delivered a hard hit line drive through the middle on a 0-1 fastball to give the Patriots a 5-3 lead and ultimately the victory.

Luke Sullivan (Sr) started on the mound for the Patriots going four innings allowing just two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out five while getting a no decision. Hurst picked up the win pitching three innings in relief, giving up just one run and striking out five.

3/26: PS vs. Liberty (SCW Tournament - Finals)

The Patriots captured their second consecutive St. Charles West Tournament Championship on Wednesday night with a thrilling 3-2 walkoff victory over the Wentzville Liberty Eagles.

After falling behind 1-0 after the top of the first, the Patriots responded by manufacturing two runs of their own on a hard ground out to the short stop by Luke Sullivan (Sr) scoring Jacob Hurst (Jr) and a sac fly by Eli Andert (Sr) scoring Jordan Schneider (Jr) to jump ahead.

The Eagles answered back in the top of the second to tie the game at 2, and it remained tied until the bottom of the 7th. Schneider led off the bottom half hammering a first pitch fastball to the rght field corner for a  double. After Sullivan was intentionally walked, Andy Hertlein (Sr) came in to pinch hit and did his job by moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd with just one out. Andert was intentionally walked loading the bases for Jamison Lombardo (Sr) who came through in the clutch with a well hti ball to the left of the short stop scoring Schneider for the walk-off win.

On the mound, Schneider and Jake Frenz (Sr) kept the Eagles off balance all night, giving up just two runs, walking just one, and striking out six to give the Patriot bats a chance to pull out the victory late in the game.
