Varsity Schedule is subject to change
The Patriot baseball boys gets back at it with three games scheduled this week at each level.
The Varsity boys look to build off their walk-off winner against Timberland on Monday before having a few practice days prior to their first conference game of the year. The boys conclude their week with a Saturday afternoon tilt against district rival Eureka at the friendly confines of Patriot Park.
The JV squad will look to get back to games, after the rain cancelled their last scheduled game, with three quality opponents this week.
The Freshman hope to build off their solid week of practice and get back in the win column starting on Monday vs. De Smet.

The fellas got back after it this past week with a heavy load of (scheduled) games across each level. The rain won out at the Freshman and JV levels, but the Varsity squad was able to get in all five of their Midwest Classic Games (albeit in unfavorable and changing conditions) and ended the week with a walk-off win in a much needed boost heading into conference and district games this upcoming week.
Recap. week 2 as a whole as we take a look back at the positives and areas to build upon at each level.
Record:
Varsity: 2-3
Junior Varsity: 0-1-1
Freshman: 0-1
The Varsity boys competed in the Midwest Classic this week going up against some of the top teams from all around the area. The week was full of close battles and learning opportunities for the squad as each game came down to 1-2 plays that made all the difference, no matter what the scoreboard may have said.
The week started out with a classic pitchers duel against Troy. Andrew Heskett (JR) got the start for the squad delivering a quality start pitching 5 innings giving up just one unearned run while striking out 9. Unfortunately the boys couldn't get the bats going as they fell to the Trojans by a score of 3-1 in 9 innings.
The boys did not have much time to dwell on the heartbreaking loss as they were right back at it the next day with a tilt against the North Point Grizzlies. Battling both the conditions and the Grizzlies, the Patriots bats awoke with a 9 hit outburst and won a lightning shortened game 7-6 in five innings. Corwin Plank (SR) got the win scattering 8 hits in five innings to pick up his first win of the year.
After two tough losses on Wednesday (to Francis Howell North) and Thursday (O'fallon Township) the boys bounced back on Friday against Timberland. Ryan Hertlein (SR) got the start and pitched three innings allowing just two runs. After giving up two in the first, Hertlein helped his own cause, demolishing a 1-2 Fastball over the RF fence for a 3-run Homerun to put the Patriots ahead. After Timberland took the lead in the 5th, Jacob Hurst (SR) shut the door delivering 3 scoreless innings to give the Patriots a chance in the bottom of the 7th to come back from a 5-3 deficit. After back-to-back walks to Wyatt Simmons (SR) and Tyler Shanfeld (SR) to kick off the 7th, Tommy Horejes (SO) executed a successful sacrifice bunt to put runners in scoring position for Hurst who promptly delivered a 1-1 pitch over the third baseman's head scoring one. After Hurst stole second, senior Jordan Schneider (SR) hit a 2-2 pitch to right field scoring Shanfeld and Hurst for the walk-off winner sending the boys and all of the Patriot faithful home happy for the weekend.
Standouts for the Week:
Jacob Hurst: ..333/.444/.467, 4 RBI, 3 R, 2 2B, 3 HBP / 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO
Ryan Hertlein: .222/.300/.556, 2 H, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO / 6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO
Andrew Heskett: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R , 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO
The JV boys had two games this week, dropping their contest to North Point and tying Lutheran South.
The offense was the story of the week as the boys scored 16 runs across their two games. They were led at the plate by Evan Bacon (FR) who reached safely 5 times in 7 PA's, with a double.
On the mound Gavin Robson (JR) threw three quality innings allowing just one run, while Evan Strumpler (SO) also threw three solid innings giving the JV Patriots a chance to win their game on Tuesday.
Boys look to clean up some of their defensive miscues and continue executing at the plate and on the mound this coming week.
The Freshman boys only had one game this week as the rain was a bugaboo for them this week.
In their game on Monday, vs. Wentzville Liberty, the boys struggled to find any consistency at the plate and on the mound. The boys look to rebound this coming week with three big games after a weather shortened week.

The Patriot baseball program gets back at it with games all week at each level.
The Varsity boys will be competing in the Midwest Classic for the first time as they head across the Missouri River Monday through Friday to take on some of the top teams around the area.
The JV squad will look to get rolling early in the week with three key games capped off by a tilt with rival Eureka.
The Freshman look to get back to their winning ways with two big matchups this week.

The Patriot Baseball program kicked off game action this week with a number of tilts at every level. Although the record was not what anyone wanted, it provided plenty of coaching moments and areas to improve as the season progresses.
As the saying goes, it is better to be playing our best baseball in May and June than March and April, and that is what the boys will be doing!
Record:
Varsity: 1-5
Junior Varsity: 1-3
Freshman: 1-2
The Varsity squad kicked off their 2026 campaign participating in the St. Charles West tournament as well as two contests later in the week against Marquette (a district opponent) and the Pirates of Pattonville.
The season started on the Friday of Spring Break week with a tilt against the Eagles from Liberty (Wentzville) in the St. Charles West Tournament. Good pitching and solid defense was not enough to overcome an impressive performance by the Eagles starting pitcher in a 4-0 defeat.
The tough start continued the next four games as the boys fell to St. Charles West (12-11), SLUH (12-2), Fort Zumwalt North (12-7) and Marquette (9-8). All of which were games in which the pitching and defense struggled to find their footing for all 7 innings, but the boys showed fight until the end as 3 of these 4 losses came down to their last at bat, with the tying run on deck or at the plate.
The boys got the monkey off their back on Friday afternoon at Pattonville beating the Pirates 9-4 for their first W of the season. Jordan Schneider delivered a gutsy performance on the mound going 6 strong innings allowing just 3 runs. Offensively, the Patriots were led by Corwin Plank who was 2-4 with 4 RBI, 2 R, 1 2B and 1 HR.
Standouts:
Jordan Schneider: 409/.458/.591, 3 RBI, 8 R, 4 2B, 0 BB, 1 SO, 3 SB
Jacob Hurst: .353/.542/.706, 3 RBI, 6 R, 3 2B, 1 HR, 4 BB, 1 SO, 3 HBP, 2 SB
Tommy Horejes: .353/.450/471, 2 RBI, 4 R, 1 3B, 3 BB, 2 SO, 1 SB
The JV got their season started with a 4 game week right out of the gate.
After two tough games against both Lafayette and Marquette, the boys rebounded nicely on Friday with an 18-0 run rule victory over Pattonville that saw every member of the starting lineup score at least once and 4 players have multiple hit days (Connor Parnell, Landon Nickerson, Andrew Zimmerman, and Sean Passow). Bryden Moss, making his JV pitching debut, threw a 3 inning no-hitter with 6 strike outs and allowing just one walk.
The Freshman kicked off their 2026 season with three games in week one.
Their season got off to a fast start with a 16-2 run rule win over Parkway West Monday afternoon, highlighted by multiple hit games from James Kettler and Julian Atilano.
Unfortunately the boys could not finish the deal on Wednesday against Lafayette. After jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, the Lafayette offense was too much as the Patriots fell 14-8. The offense was once again highlighted by James Kettler's 2 hit day, including a double, and three hit days by Colton Shanfeld (3-4 with a 3B and 3 RBI) and Wyatt Thomure (3-4).
Thursday was not their day as a road game against the Marquette Mustangs was not what the doctor ordered as the boys fell 9-0.
